What to Wear for Couple’s Photo sessions
Once an engagement photoshoot or maternity session is booked, the next question is often: What do we wear? What the couple wears can greatly impact how your photos will look.
The following are some tips to consider to guide you to the perfect photo session outfit for your maternity photo session or engagement session:
Coordinate rather than match: For example, instead of mom wearing the same color dress as dad’s shirt, opt to coordinate with colors that compliment each other such as neutral tones or pastel colors for a light and airy look. The Spanish moss, architecture and nature parks available in Orlando help create a perfect light and airy backdrop for Orlando engagement photography and Orlando maternity photography.
Flowy fabric photographs well: Opt for a flowy dress versus tight fitted and or loose fitted linen material as this will make your Florida engagement photos or Florida maternity photos, much more dreamy and romantic feeling. Form-fitted clothing which can make movement in an image appear stiff and forced.
Opt for colors other than black: While black is known to be sliming, this can make your photos look very heavy. A night out on the town is perfect for that little black dress, but think lighter, more carefree vibes to highlight your engagement or maternity photos.
Avoid distracting clothing (such as bright colors or small patterns) I’m all for pops of color in life, but for portraits, what I really want to pop is your love story! Bold colors or patterns often take away from the subject in a photo and draw the eye towards the outfit rather than the people in them. Additionally small patterns often found on men’s shirts can create an unappealing effect in professional photos due to the camera’s sensor called, the moire effect. Not to mention, bright colors reflect off the skin of the others in the photo and can affect how that creamy, dreamy skin tone appears in photos.
I love living in the south as a photographer this time of year, being that as the weather allows us to continue to do lots of maternity photo sessions and engagement session as we enter this “slow season” for weddings, it’s almost not slow at all!
